Someone touched my computer

Song of the day: When you were young by the killers

laptopWho the f***k dared touching my laptop?! Thats the first thing I though when I saw the battery plugged! I always leave it without battery and use it on AC power. Am I a real geek to notice this kind of things? Am I a real geek to be upset? I dont know, but when I launch firefox and all my tabs have disappeared because the person who used it didnt click save or delete them all, that is where I get furious and then realize that it isnt a big deal I am not that bad but I think I am still a geek regards to that! :P

Sorry, I am upset these days… :(

By the way, this week end I go to Milan with a friend. More photos are coming! :) Our only issue is that the temperature will be between -4 and 4 during 3 days. I am not used to that anymore. :D

Song of the day: Ghosts by Robbie Williams

Today, after spending 16 hours on an issue yesterday, my colleague came and sort it out in 1 hour!!! Believe it or not! You can’t imagine how pissed I was against him. But I should not hold any grudge againdt him. He is part of the development team that have been taken away from the support. Yesterday he was tied up by another production issue and he wants to make a point I think to our new boss that the separation was a bad move… But hey! that is work! C’est la vie! there is nothing to do now! :P But I ma still pissed though! :)

that’s long!

banks and computers

25 10 2008

And guess what? I am working. I am at my desk front of my 2 screens, it is 11am and I have been here since 7:15 and I will be here for a lot longer… We got too many works to do on our servers and we need to be extra careful these days because of what’s happening on the exchange. All our servers have been rebooted because Windows Updates have been applied so we have to restart 50 servers, put the passwords for the frive mappings, log on all the apps. We are going to carry few upgrades, password change, …

Some work are done because they’re moving our support offshore to Bengalore. We have people over from India here with us and we need to train them to do our job. Banks are trying to cut the prices because we are too expensive in London! :( And because of the credit crunch, they told all our contractors that their wages will be reduced by 10%: take it or leave it. No exception will be made… Thing is, we are already so streched that it is difficult for them to sack us, permanent employees but because it is harder now to get a job in banking, they still can hit the contractors! Bastards! But I am sure their bonuses won’t be that much affected, only ours…

Song of the day: Les cactus by Jacques Dutronc

You know what… I have ne glasses. I bought the others 3 years ago. They had no anti reflect and no color anymore! My problem is that my sight has gotten worse. It wasn’t great before but at least it has never changed for the past 10 years!!! Now, it is worst than a mole! :P For those who understand, before my correction was +4.25 Sph and +0.75 Cyl for my right eye and +5.5 Sph and +0.5 for the left eye with 180 axis. Now it is +5.75 Sph, -1.25 cyl and 90 axis for both… I think it means SHIT but I am not sure! :P What I know is when your eyes are fucked, it is not good to work before a computer!

Song of the day: Love’s Been Good to Me by Johnny Cash – Have you seen the movie Walk the Line? This is J C’s life. Really good!

Yesterday, on Friday, the last day of the week, I receive an email informing all the IT people of the bank that my department’s boss and his boss will be off the 2 next weeks…. but I already new that my colleague who is supposed to be higher than me and his boss were off as well the next 2 weeks. So to sum up, my boss, my boss’ boss, my boss’ boss’ boss and my boss’ boss’ boss’ boss or to put simply, my N+1, +2, +3 and +4 are off the next 2 weeks…. How SHIT is that?

What am I supposed to do? Run everything by myself without escalation point or anything???? Keep your blackberries on guys, because the shit will hit the fan and it won’t be nice! :P

So on my way home I bought an ORANGINA. We don’t often find some here but recently we can see them and there is this new ad on TV that is so ggod. Have a look. This one ends with the french slogan. The english one is: Shake it to wake it! :P Hot, isn’t it?

war

Song of the day: Tout le bonheur du monde by Sinsemilia

In Europe, we all like Barrack Obama and I am not an exception in this matter. He seems a good guy, or at least better than the McCain or Bush, but this is my opinion. He has just spent few days in Europe and that is a good thing: build good relationship between Europe and the US won’t harm! The issue is that even if he seems nice and has some sweet words for the Berliners and other europeans, he has done one thing that he should not have… He said:

No one welcomes war. I recognize the enormous difficulties in Afghanistan.  But my country and yours have a stake in seeing that NATO’s first mission beyond Europe’s borders is a success. For the people of Afghanistan, and for our shared security, the work must be done.  America cannot do this alone.  The Afghan people need our troops and your troops; our support and your support to defeat the Taliban and al Qaeda, to develop their economy, and to help them rebuild their nation.  We have too much at stake to turn back now”

I took these from Corine Lesnes’ blog that you can read here. She is a correspondent for Le Monde in the US. You can find B. O.’s full speech.

What he says here is not innocent and not really welcomed here: clean somebody else’s mess… Nobody wants that. French for instance doesn’t join the US army for one main reason: we have never agreed to any of Bush’s operation in Middle East and we have said that on several occasion now (mainly because we had nothing to get there (such as petrol that the US will keep for them anyway) but still… and also because it wasn’t based on any reliable info). We are also not really part of NATO anymore even if our dear President wants the country back… So on what ground should we go in Afghanistan??? NONE! Oh sorry save Afghans… I am not sure our help will be well seen by them… Is there really something we can do now that damages have been done and people doesn’t have a good esteem of foreigners… I am a simple IT so I should leave the thinking to our dear politics… I am nobody but I like giving my opinion. Tell me your’s?

PS: this doesn’t change the fact that having Obama for President could be the best thing that can happen for the Americans.

Olympics

25 07 2008

Song of the day: Israelites by Desmond Dekker

I am upset. People are exciting by the Olympic games this year. They will soon begin but I think that we have forgotten someone. Yes the people of China!! They keep killing opponents, putting in jail innocents and oppressing the people! Go read this article here on Le Monde and the action Amnesty International is putting up here – check out the issues.
