Business woman

15 12 2008

ipod touchThis is done. I bought a new mp3 player: the iPod Touch 32 GB. Why?
Funny enough, it is not even for the music that I decided to buy it… These past 2 weeks, I have been organising lots of stuff for my weekends and I also learnt that 3 of friends are getting married – and I am invited to 2 of the hen party. I can’t say I am a business woman but I am obviously planning a lot! And you know me, always sending emails for dinner, trip or party. I am using Google Agenda at the moment. It is really powerful and I am happy with it but the problem is that during the day, I don’t have access to it. I tried to use a real agenda on paper but I always forgot to update it or to bring it with me. And that is how I forgot about events I planned a while ago…

I thought the solution would have been a smartphone. Last week I checked the offers, but the pay as you go mobile weren’t nice and I can’t upgrade my mobile with Orange as I have only been with them for 12 months and I am on a 18 months basis contract. I also discovered the iPhone but it is only sold here with O2… and I don’t want to change my network as yet… So the solution, the iPod Touch. It is the same than the iPhone but it doesn’t do phone! :P

It is amazing what it can do. I didn’t want an iPod as I don’t like iTunes but I have to say, I am impressed. I can import/sync my contact from Gmail, connect to Internet/Facebook/Weather broadcast on WiFi, manage my Agenda (sync it with Outlook if you use it), and listen to your MP3s. Good stuff.

Thanks WP

MP3 player

Song of the day: Mockingbird by Taj Mahal

I am not an exception, I have a mp3 player that I use everyday in the transport to help me have nice journeys in the tube. Mine is an Archos GMini XS100 3GB. It is completely enough for the time I use it. My battery lasts 1 or more week with at least 2 hours of listening per day. I always listen till death of it. 3GB allows me to have a large enough choice of music as I don’t use it as storage – I have hard drives for that. In one word, it is PERFECT!

The only problem is that I have had it for now 2 years and when I plug it in on my USB port, it gets charged but I can’t delete/add files on it!! It shows me an empty disk and I can’t change anything. So I always listen to the same music: old ones!!!!!

I have just sent an email to the Technical Support but I am sure they are gonna get back to me saying that it would cost more than a new one… :( So I am having a look at the offer on the market of the portable mp3 hard drive player…. other than iPod as I would like not to have one to do like everybody!!! But it seems hard to find. Creative seems to offer nice products but I don’t know. Any advice?

Song of the day: Trust in me by Susheela Raman

I discovered a new website today: Wikitravel! Another great invention from Wikimedia. Wikipedia was already my main source of info when I needed particular details. Now I have another reason to like this site. I guess I should look at the others but do you have any other sites that worth it?

Must see

You have to watch this TV show. I LOVE it. This a great British humor show called The I.T. Crowd. A woman joins a company and is dumped ‘manager’ of the IT Support. That is great. Watch till the end because that is great fun. I have both season and that is hilarious. In this one, you can see Jen, her boss and the 2 guys from the IT department. Enjoy.

Song of the Day: Les Marquises by Jacques Brel

I discovered a new website today: Google’s blog that you can discover here. It is kind of interesting to find out what’s going on on this huge actor of Internet such as Google. I reckon I use G. all my day long: iGoogle, Gmail, Google Agenda, Gtalk, Google News! It is already a lot and I am sure I am not the only who setuped iGoogle as its welcome page! ;)

Direct from my computer, here is for the first time my pilot commands (click to enlarge)!

Good news or bad news

Song of the day: Little boxes by Malvina Reynolds – original opening theme of the TV serie called Weeds broadcasted by Showtime in the US and Canal+ in France I believe (here I don’t know I look onto internet :) ). This show is really really good. They already made 3 seasons. Watch at least the 1st one once! Check it out here.

Do you know ASDA? ASDA is one of the various grocery stores in England among others like Waitrose, Tesco, Morrison’s, Sainsbury, Lidl and Aldi. It is affiliated to the US giant Wal*Mart. All their ads are about how cheap they are. That is where I shop online as there is one in my neighborhood and it is opened 24/7… like in the US! :( Now, they are looking for a new representative to replace Rooney’s wife. Guess who they are thinking of…??? Carla Bruni!!! Yes, I am not lying to you and you can find the proof here and here with more insights. Ils sont fous ces anglais!

In the meantime in Germany….
a publisher will sell the 1st paper copy of Wikipedia! You can find more information here in Le Monde. And that is where I learn that German is the 2nd language after English into Wikis!! Good job! Wikipedia (including Wikimedia, wikictionary, wikiquote,…) is really a good website. This where I always go first when I look for some details about a city, a country I want to visit, a word (Wikictionary), a concept, a tv serie,… Anything!!!

Song of the day: Karma Police by Radiohead – this is for my mates from school who are in SF and give the same link to download Radiohead’s concert on BBC. Please go see their blogs, their addresses are on the right. They will be happy!

whatAh the music. That is hard to offer you a song per day. I have only got 25 Go on my small hard drive of music (trop trop bien le truc: un pitit WD il a la classe). The choice is difficult. ;) I just hope I make you listen to new things. Not really new stuff as it s been a long time since I have bought a new CD but old and still good stuff. As my father would say (yes I know I can here you here you know, in my head), the new artists don’t invent anything, they just re discover the old music that they mix. Everything have been done in the past! (yes old people have seen everything indeed :D like ‘oui nous le Maroc en 76′ LOOOL [ private joke, sorry :-/ ])

What kind of music would you want to hear? I like electro music, disco music, rock, pop, reggae, blues, dub, ska. I am not difficult1 ;)

coffee and screens

Song of the day: Alabama song by The Doors

coffeeeeeeeeeeeI love coffee. That is what I think every morning I work the early shift! When you get up at 5:30 in the morning, all you want is your shot of caffeine to help you open your eyes… I usually go for the Columbian coffee (they are marked by forces and this one is 4/5) at work. The coffee is not bad and is strong enough for an early start. Later in the day, I have a Kenyan Dawn coffee (force 3/5) just to pass the afternoon smoothly. My colleagues are much fancier than me and always get Cappuccinos but they can’t be as good as the one you have in the Nero/Starbucks/Costa and other cafes…

Don’t you find that hard to work front of a computer when you are tired without coffee? Hopefully, now we have flat screens. That is a real pleasure (especially when you have 2 screens ;) ) compared to the old CRTs. Back to school (and I am not old), when I had to work front of the big old ones, I would finish my day with my eyes almost shut. You would have thought I had Asian roots (but just for the first 3 s. not more as my pale tan is enough to guess that I don’t other roots than Charolais roots :D ) ! Or as I usually say like a mole (you know the one who never sees the sun and blinks when is outside)!

PS: Guess where I was at lunchtime??? ……….. It is not my fault, it was my colleague’s birthday1 :(

L’Internet!

song of the day: DARE (feat. Shaun Ryder) by Gorillaz (I would love to see them on concert)

geek foreverInternet is a trap. Once you have broadband at home, you keep checking emails, facebook, MSN, blog… Isn’t it weird to be so hooked up on something so virtual like this? Thing is, I am not afraid or ashamed to write it : I like it. So what? I am not like a .com girl living only front of her computer but I reckon I enjoy chatting with my friends, order music and films, download stuff, check the news, check my friends website, upload photos on  FTP, all those new things we couldn’t live without now but that are so beyond understanding for some of our friends!!! Vive les geeks !

I just realized that on my Sunday! And wanted to tel you! :)
