reading and listening

2 01 2009

I have 2 new things in my cultural life at the moment: a new music album and a new book….

Les hommes qui n'aiment pas les feemes1-  I am listening to Elbow – The Seldom seen kid. I posted one of their song a while ago called Audience with the pope. I love their CD and I want to discover their others. It is just slow pop music with hot voices. Really peaceful. Just try.

Elbow2- It is the first time I read in French since I am in London i.e. april 2006! And I read. My book shelves are full and I don’t know where to store my new ones. My parents talked to me so much about this book that I had to read it but unfortunately they have not all been translated from Swedish to English I believe. the write is Stieg Larsson and the first novel is ‘Les hommes qui n’aiment pas les femmes‘ – the english one is called ‘the girl with the dragon tatoo’. This is the first of a trilogy called Millenium.  In England, the 2nd will be published in Jan 09 and the 3rd in Jan 10!!! I can’t wait. They are all already out in France. So I read in French. I will tell you once I finished the first book.

Song of the day: Rule the world by Take That – since their come back, they are playing this song everywhere

orpheus risingI am currently reading Orpheus Rising Love, Rockets & a bloody great fish by Colin Bateman. That is an intresting book. Well written but a bit slow. Surprising from the being. It wont be my favourite but will be part of my discovery. Please give me some idea about what to read!!!!!

BTW, I go to Paris this week end. I had a free ticket from last year because I had more than an 1hrs delay! :)

Music of the day: Digital Monkey by Bakan Beat Box – TO LISTEN

I am just back from the Carling Academy in Islington where I saw Balkan Beat Box on stage and where I will soon see Horace Andy! You can see their website here. The sound was good, the dance was great and the atmosphere royal. They style was gypsy-balkan-punk-ska-electro-musical music. Nice and punchy. I loved it although my housemate says it is for young people! I don’t care, I love dancing music! :)

I don’t like bank holiday week end

25 08 2008

Song of the day: Start Wearing Purple by Gogol Bordello – TOO GOOD!!!

On Saturday, I worked which is pretty bad. And today as well! But today was a bank holiday in England. I started from home using my new blackberry :( and my remote connection at 7am… and then the worst case scenario happened. One of our main historical server doesn’t start up!!! It went off line during the night without anybody reacting.

I was the central point of contact. Users in London who were working today wanted to be done quickly and go home, users in Toronto wanted their day not to be shit, the support people who were on call couldn”t be bother and were pissed! We had to make the decision to go to our backup solution i.e. restore the backuped database, chang the DNS, bring up the server,… all done by several teams!!! Just the biggest shit ever when nobody was on line…. Then our PC support team told us that the RAID battery was fucked and they had to replace it and we made the call to cancle the switch to DR. The mess involved 20 or 40 IT and as much users. A total MESS. But I am now home and will soon eat as I only 2 buttered toasts at 6:30am!

Luckily, I had a GREAT Sunday! We begun with a good and filling english breakfast. Then we went to the Get Loaded in the Park festival in Clapham Commons. I saw Gossip, Gogol Bordello and others but these 2 were the best! I love them!! :)
